Becoming A Member

To become a member, one is invited to join by a current member. Once a membership form has been endorsed by a seconder and accepted by the committee, membership is conferred.

At present the costs of membership are:

  • Full member
    $200.00 per year
  • Junior Member (18 to 25 years)
    $100.00 per year
    with 5 free life registrations
  • Junior Member (under 18)
    $20.00 per year
    with 5 free life registrations

  • Full Time Students (under 25)
    $20.00 per year
    with 5 free life registrations

Junior members over 18 have full voting rights.

Cattle Registration

Cattle Registration gives lifetime registration.

  • Life Time Registration per Female or Sire: $30.00

Cattle registered with the MGBCS can be transferred to the Association Herd Book using the Society Certificate, providing it meets the criteria for pureblood animals and has 5 generations of pedigree.

Transfer Of Cattle

There will be no need to transfer cattle between members of the Association as the animal is registered for life and the NLIS program of lifetime traceability applies. Members may wish to notify the Association when transferring animals.

Purity
  • Only animals which meet the pure blood percentage are eligible to be registered as pure blood 87.5% for females and 93% for bulls.
  • FB will be attached to the animal Certificate designating the purity of the animal.
  • There will be a supplementary register, in the Herd Book as an appendix for approved sire and dames not registered in the Association herd book for ET and AI purposes.
  • Members are responsible for all aspects of their herd health including congenital abnormalities such as Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM), Hydrocephalus (NH), Contractual Arachnodactyly (CA).
  • Random DNA testing of selected cattle at the Associations expense will occur every few years.
